Our Mission
The Confrerie des Chevaliers de la Chantepleure, the second oldest French wine society (founded in 1937) is dedicated to promoting wines of the Loire Valley of France, especially those from Vouvray. Our purpose in founding the Society of the Chantepleure – the first chapter in the United States – is to establish a fellowship with those who share our interests in celebrating the wine and cuisine of the Touraine region of the Loire.
The Society will periodically host wine tastings at which wines from the Loire will be served, and we will work with local restaurants to organize luncheons and dinners for small groups at which these wines will be served with a variety of cuisines, especially French, in order to provide opportunities for members to experience how these special wines pair with a wide variety of foods, to gain a deeper appreciation of the relationship between wine and cuisine in general, and to foster camaraderie between the membership.
Our Partners
In founding the Society of the Chantepleure, we are fortunate to count as good friends several of New York’s leading purveyors of these wines, sommeliers, and restauranteurs, as well as vintners in the Loire Valley who we have come to know through our association with the Confrerie in Vouvray.
We are especially grateful for the encouragement and support of wine merchants in New York City who have extended special discounts on the purchase of all Loire Valley wines as an added benefit of membership in the Chantepleure. The specifics of these discounts will be provided by the merchants upon request.
Charter Wine Merchant Partners include RWM Selections (Rosenthal Wine Merchant), Chambers Street Wines, and Flatiron Wines & Spirits.
